Wood Firing Experience with David Sullivan Experience the excitement and unpredictability of wood firing in this hands-on workshop at David Sullivan's beautiful rural property, just east of Warkworth. Designed for potters who have never experienced a wood firing before (or who are keen to learn more), this workshop takes you through the entire process—from planning your work through to opening the kiln and discovering the unique results that only a wood fire can produce. Wood firing is unlike any other firing method. Ash, flame and heat work together to create natural surfaces, flashing and subtle variations that simply can't be replicated in an electric kiln. Every firing is different, and part of the magic is embracing the unexpected. Over five sessions you'll: * Learn the principles of wood firing and how the kiln works and plan your work for firing. * Glaze pieces with wood firing in mind. * Help load the kiln. * Take part in a full day of wood firing alongside fellow participants. * Return to unload the kiln and celebrate the results together over a shared meal. This is a collaborative, immersive experience where everyone contributes to the firing and learns from the process. There are no guarantees about the final outcome—that's part of what makes wood firing so rewarding. Whether your pieces emerge subtly flashed or dramatically transformed by ash and flame, you'll come away with a deeper understanding of one of ceramics' oldest and most fascinating firing methods. **Workshop includes:** * Five guided sessions * All firing costs * Shared lunch on kiln loading day * Shared dinner at the kiln opening * Expert guidance from experienced wood firer David Sullivan and the Clay Silverdale team Suitable for potters with some making experience.
